EXEMPT POSITION DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Job:  To develop and implement fundraising programs, special events, grants plan, and marketing strategy.

Work Environment:  Work performed in the office setting and in the community.

Reports to the Director of Administration or other designated supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:

A. Fundraising

  1. Develops and implements short-term and long-term Development plans.
  2. Authors annual campaign plan.
  3. Recruits annual campaign chair and committee.
  4. Works with annual campaign chair to coordinate and conduct committee meetings.
  5. Works with annual campaign committee to secure gifts and pursue prospects.
  6. Works with Board of Directors to secure gifts and pursue prospects.
  7. Provides campaign progress reports to Board of Directors.
  8. Produces campaign materials.
  9. Leads donor cultivation efforts.
  10. Conducts prospect research to identify potential donors and future campaign leaders.
  11. Recruits Associates Campaign chair and committee.
  12. Organizes Associates Campaign and provides support to volunteers as needed.
  13. Organizes the Corporate Challenge and provides support to volunteers as needed.
  14. Leads planning of Brush, Bottle and Barrel of the Bluegrass and other special fundraising events.
  15. Recruits special event host committee and leads sponsorship solicits.
  16. Maintains event budget.
  17. Oversees event communications and promotions.
  18. Provides support to campaign and special event volunteers as necessary.
  19. Obtains appropriate fundraising permits from city and state government.
  20. Develops a long-term plan to grow the organization's endowment.
  21. Assists in developing plans for capital campaigns, cy pres strategies, and other public fundraising campaigns, as appropriate.

B.  Grants

  1. Creates and implements Legal Aid's annual grants plan.
  2. Writes and submits grant applications and progress reports.
  3. Maintains master calendar of all grant application and report deadlines and ensures timely submission.
  4. Secures sufficient funding to meet budget goals.
  5. Evaluates effectiveness of organization's current grants plan and proposal quality.
  6. Develops and maintains relationships with funders and other parties who have the ability to assist Legal Aid accomplish its mission.
  7. Researches and identifies potential funding sources.

C.  Marketing

  1. Develops marketing materials, including but not limited to, Annual Report, newsletters, paid advertising, email correspondence, and event invitations.
  2. Writes and designs monthly column in Louisville Bar Association's Bar Briefs.

D.  Administrative

  1. Serves as part of management team.
  2. Participates in management meetings, decisions, and activities.
  3. Serves as management designee in disciplinary and grievance processes.
  4. Participates in strategic and long-range planning of the organization.
  5. Controls Development expenses and works within approved budget.
  6. Works with Executive Assistant to ensure quality donor data management and preparation of acknowledgement letters.
  7. Occasional night and weekend work hours; some local and out of town travel.

Qualifications:

  1. Dedication to mission of pursuing justice for people in poverty.
  2. Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university and three years' experience in fundraising and grant writing, or comparable experience.
  3. Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to convey Legal Aid mission and goals in a clear and effective manner.
  4. Ability to manage workload in a systematic manner, multi-task, and manage tight deadlines.
  5. Skills to complete a sufficient volume of work based on division of priorities.
  6. Ability to work independently and manage several projects at a time with little direction.
  7. Diligent attention to detail.
  8. Proactive thinker.  Identifies problems and defines central issues, evaluates options, and proposes solutions.
  9. Ability to treat confidential information appropriately.
  10. Ability to effectively work with colleagues at various levels, contribute to a harmonious work atmosphere, display interest in assisting other employees.
  11. Must have skills to use office technologies; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook essential; knowledge of FundRaiser and Adobe Creative Suite helpful.
  12. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, hold a valid driver's license, and be able to be insured under the Legal Aid Society auto insurance policy.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls or equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
